DESCRIPTION/FEATURES: Evaluation of furfural production from a sugar mill that operates 180 days per year in a remote location.
OUTCOME: Before tax IRR= 26.2% with a payback period of less than four years. The income from furfural sales is 2x higher than that from electricity produces from the same amount of bagasse.
Background
This greenfield development is in its first phase and it includes sugar, ethanol and electricity production. There is sufficient land and water available to increase the production. Alternatives to electricity production are being evaluated.
